Steve Smith of East Alabama Mental Health Center Receives Statewide Award

8, 2007) -- Mr. Steve Smith, Director of Substance Abuse and Adult Day
Services of East Alabama Mental Health Center received the William
“Bill” Chapman Memorial Scholarship Award for outstanding service and
commitment to training as a court referral program by the Alabama
Judicial College. The award was presented on October 25, 2007 at the
Court Referral and Community Corrections Conference of the Alabama
Administrative Office of the Courts.
Mr. Smith has been a regional and statewide leader in court referral
services for 24 years. The East Alabama Mental Health Center has
provided these programs since the early 1980’s to assist courts in
providing educational programs for those arrested for offenses involving
driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These programs provide
an educational alternative to incarceration and assist in deterring
repeat offenses of these crimes. |
